NSPCC and Sussex County FA join forces to help keep children safe online

The NSPCC has joined forces with the Sussex County FA to host an online safety workshop.

Parents and carers are invited to attend this free hour-long workshop, which has been devised in partnership with O2, to help tackle the growing concerns of children’s safety online.

The evening is an opportunity to gain skills and knowledge to understand more about the internet and technology – from online games and cyber bullying, through to setting up privacy settings and controls – and to help parents have the right conversations with their children.

It will be held at 6.30pm on Tuesday 9 July at the Sussex County FA Headquarters in Culver Road, Lancing.

Emma Motherwell, NSPCC Campaigns Manager, said: “The online world can be unfamiliar and sometimes daunting to parents. But to protect our children it is vital that we understand technology and can have informed conversations with them about it.

“The free workshop is primarily aimed at parents of children aged 7 to 11 years old and is designed to give parents the skills and knowledge to understand the internet as young people do and to encourage parents to talk to their children about the online world, its positives and its risks.

“We believe that if parents and their children are aware of the potential opportunities and dangers faced online then they are better placed to protect themselves against them.”

Sandra Redhead, Designated Safeguarding Manager at the Sussex County FA, said: “Keeping children safe is one of our top priorities, so we are delighted to be working in partnership with the NSPCC to host this workshop, which is open to all and not just those involved in football!”

The event will open at 6.30pm for refreshments, with a 7pm prompt start.

Attendees will have the chance to be entered into a raffle to win four tickets for a tour of Wembley Stadium connected by EE, which lets you explore the behind-the scenes of the UK’s largest sports and music venue. Taking you deep in to the heart of the stadium, the award-winning tour includes the Dressing Rooms, the Press Conference Room, Players’ Tunnel, Pitch-side and the iconic Royal Box.

There is limited availability for the workshop and places are available on a first come first served basis.
