‘Adopt a Station’

PartnershipAndy Gardner, Station Manager, Lewes and Seaford Railway Stations for Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) has signedtheSeafordStation Partnership Agreement with Rodney Reed, President of the Martello Rotary Seaford. Also attending wereCllr Nazish Adil, Mayor of Seaford and Catherine Simmons, Education, Westcoast Way and Seaford to Brighton Line Officer,Sussex Community Rail Partnership

Station Partnerships are groups of volunteers who come together to ‘Adopt a Station’, in this instance for Seaford Station. Martello Rotary Partners for Seaford Station workingwith Southern to help tailor the Station to the area it serves. Southern and the Martello Rotary Partners work closely withthe Sussex Community Rail Partnership. Partnerships such as this one helpsa Station to feel more attractive and to be a focal point for residents and visitors alike.

The Seaford Station Partnership will engage the community with the Station and provide a set of ‘Seaford Through The Ages’ murals and plantingboxes and flower planting that will enhance the attractiveness of the Station to rail travellers and provide a bright and interesting ‘Welcome to Seaford’

.According to Andy Gardner, Station Manager“I’m delighted to welcome Rodney Reed and his fellow members of Martello Rotary as our Station Partners. One of the pleasures in this role is seeing bridges builtbetween the railway and the communities that we serve. I am really looking forward to the colourful improvements that are planned, with volunteers from the local community helpingat the station and pupils from local schools being able to enjoy seeing their artwork on display”.

President of Martello Rotary, Rodney Reedcomments “We look forward to being able to further engagewith local schools and the community for this ‘Adopt a Station’ Partnership. Martello rotary will workwithlocal volunteers, adults and children,for the murals, the flower planting, the watering and the planter maintenance. It’s an opportunity for the Town to identify with the Station and enable it to be a colourful and interesting entry into the town”.

Catherine Simmons, Education, Westcoast Way and Seaford to Brighton Line Officerexplains that “Sussex Community Rail Partnership are very pleased to welcome Martello Rotary to the station. The Partnership will help to create a welcoming environment for visitors to the town through artwork and planting. It will be fantastic support for Jenny in the ticket office who has worked over the last 15 years to keep the station looking great
