Simon Cosham from St Wilfrid’s Hospice popped in to a Newhaven garden centre last week (24 Oct) to collect a cheque for the £535 raised during the business’s recent charity coffee morning.

The money was raised at Paradise Park from hot drink sales, an afternoon tea raffle and other fundraising activities earlier this month (11 Oct).

Tates Garden Centres, which runs the Avis Road attraction, held the fundraiser to mark Hospice Care Week. Each of its four Sussex sites (Newhaven, Hassocks, Portslade and Dial Post) donated profits from hot drinks purchased during the morning.

Representatives from each centre’s chosen hospice were present at the coffee morning which also welcomed local dignitaries, such as MPs.

“Collectively, the four garden centres  raised over £4, 100 during this year’s event”, explained Rebecca Houghton-Knapp from Tates’ charity dept. “That’s a huge increase from last year’s total of £2,500 and we are most grateful to everyone who contributed.”

The raffle, held at each site, was to win an afternoon tea for two, with a draw for every 50 entries. This raffle raised over £2 ,000 with over 30 winners collectively across centres.
