OVER TWO THIRDS OF BRITS DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH PUMPKIN LEFTOVERS
33% of UK adults buy at least two pumpkins at Halloween
New research from food waste fighting app, Too Good To Go, has found that two thirds of Brits don’t actually know what to do with pumpkin skin, flesh and seeds.
Only 15% said that they always use their pumpkin leftovers after Halloween and almost a third admitted that they have never even thought about what happens to pumpkins after the celebrations have passed.
To combat this, Too Good To Go has launched the #pimpmypumpkin campaign, encouraging Brits to think “taste not waste” this Halloween, making use of pumpkin leftovers instead of simply discarding them. The food waste fighting app has put together a series of useful recipes that maximise the underused squash – from spiced pumpkin bread and roasted pumpkin seeds.
Jamie Crummie, co-founder of Too Good To Go UK, says:-
“It’s scary how many pumpkins go to waste each Halloween yet just revealing these stats doesn’t make any difference. This year, we’re on a mission to change that. By challenging Halloween revellers to use our handy recipes and share their pimped up pumpkin creations with us, we’re hoping to inspire Brits to take action and reduce the amount of pumpkin wastage. Wasting food is a frightful contributor to our global CO2 emissions and we should all be doing our bit to reduce our impact on the environment.”
