Over 1.2 million older people in England are ‘chronically lonely’, and 200,000 older people have not had a conversation with friends or family for a month, according to Age UK. But loneliness can affect people of all ages, and on World Kindness Day, research sheds light on how kind we are as a society and the importance of befriending services to help us connect to each other.

Acts of kindness, and befriending projects in particular, can be the only ways some of the most isolated people gain companionship and, despite the average person marking themselves 7.3 out of 10 for kindness.
