This year’s Christmas Late Night Shopping Event in Lewes will be on Thursday 5th December from 6.00 to 9.00pm.
The High Street will be pedestrianised from the Bottleneck to the bottom of School Hill, and parking in all the town’s pay and display car parks will be free from 6.00pm (mostly from 5.00pm)
This year the evening really is not to be missed. Lots of shops and businesses will be opening with special Christmas offers and treats; singers, dancers and musicians will be performing from the Bottleneck to Cliffe Corner and a horse and carriage will be giving rides in the High Street.
Amongst many other things there’s also the traditional Harvey’s Yard event, an indoor Craft Market at the Town Hall and a town Bauble Trail in conjunction with Viva Lewes, as well as Santa’s Grotto in Lewes House. It will be a traditional, jolly, family orientated event to put everyone in the Christmas mood!
In addition, the first phase of Lewes’s new Christmas Lights will be ablaze, which together with shop keepers’ own displays will transform the town into a bright and welcoming place during the darkest days of midwinter.
The Lewes High Street Traders’ Association, with support from Town, District and County Councils, has been working on an ambitious plan to “Light Up Lewes” for Christmas.
Good progress has been made so that by this year’s Late Night Shopping Event, every available lamp post from the top to the bottom of the town will be decorated with a garland of warm-white LED lights.
The lamp post lights are the first stage of a bigger, more comprehensive scheme that is planned for Winter 2020.
Lewes High Street Traders’ Association is extremely grateful to have received generous support and sponsorship from Lewes District Council, Lewes Town Council, East Sussex County Council, the Chalk Cliff Trust and many local businesses including Harvey’s Brewery.
