Festive Season done. Dry January almost completed. What next? How about something to keep you happy, healthy and in excellent voice? Sing to your heart’s content! There is a huge amount of research showing that singing really is good for you. A swift look on the internet will give you some surprising results. For example singing strengthens the immune system, is a good physical workout, improves your posture, helps with sleep and is a natural anti-depressant. Singing can also widen your circle of friends, boost your confidence and broaden your communication skills. What’s not to like!
Where can you try out singing in a safe, warm and friendly environment? Try The International Voice Orchestra. The International Voice Orchestra (IVO) has moved its venue, day and time and is welcoming new recruits on Tuesday 11th February at 4.45pm (to meet and greet) at Victoria Baptist Church in Eldon Road, Eastbourne. IVO is open to anyone aged over 16 and the new time means that people can make it along after work, college or school or maybe before starting an evening shift.
IVO is unique in Eastbourne because, although it sings traditional British songs too, it’s main emphasis is on singing songs from around the world. Yes! The group does sing in different languages and welcomes people from different places / cultures to bring authenticity to its repertoire. With its excellent Musical Director and Voice Coach, Lena Holt, in charge everyone is in good hands. Lena teaches techniques that help to strengthen your voice and improve your vocal range. She is also extraordinarily clever at arranging songs that suit different abilities so no-one feels out of their comfort zone.
The 11th February will be a ‘dip your toe in’ session, giving you the chance to find out more about the group and its repertoire. As there are no auditions (IVO believes that anyone can enjoy singing) you can just turn up or you can contact Creative Force, the IVO’s founding company, beforehand to find out more: email@example.com or call 07432 678228. #IntVoiceOrchestra
