Starring: Vanessa Redgrave, Timothy Spall For those unfamiliar with this particular relationship there are some surprises in store: far from encouraging her son, Mrs Lowry tries to dissuade him from pursuing his passion. LS Lowry lived with her until her death in 1939. In the Guardian Peter Bradshaw praised the two leads for providing an ‘entertaining showcase’.

Year: 1961

Hepburn’s portrayal of Holly Golightly as the naive and eccentric café society girl is generally considered to be one of her best roles, but the introverted Hepburn found it challenging because it required extrovert behaviour. Made in 1961, it received Oscars for Best Score and Best Song (Moon River).
