A27 dual carriageway closer following Budget announcement

The dualing of the A27 took a step closer today as during the Budget announcement on more road funding the project was included by the Department for Transport in RIS2 and RIS3 Funding programmes.

The Road Investment Strategy 2 (RIS2) includes plans to dual the northbound carriageway between the Polegate junction and the Cophall roundabout, improvements to cycling and walking provision and funding to begin preliminary work for the dualing of the whole A27 from Lewes to Polegate.

The projects that will be promised in RIS3 need to enter development between now and 2025. This will involve proposals for the next RIS going through the early stages of the development process.

Maria Caulfield MP said “Following the budget this announcement from the Department for Transport is an important step forward to dualing of the A27 between Lewes and Polegate. Improvements to cycling, walking, dualing the road between Cophall roundabout and the traffic lights, along with preliminary works for a full dual carriageway have been including in RIS2 paving the way for the full dual carriageway to be included in RIS3 funding. This is exciting news for residents who have waited for decades for improvements to this road”
