Using the first public opportunity to praise the work of Lewes District Council staff, the Conservative opposition group on the council paid tribute to the enormous effort put in by all the authority’s workers during the current Covid-19 crisis.

Speaking during the council’s first virtual Cabinet Meeting (7 May), the Conservative Group Leader Cllr Isabelle Linington said that the district should be proud of all that the highly-dedicated team of officers had done. She thanked them for the speed with which they reacted to the crisis and the enormous help and assistance they had rendered to so many groups across the Lewes district, from supporting struggling businesses, the vulnerable and the homeless.

Deputy Conservative Leader, Cllr Joe Miller, remarked on the resilience and diversity shown by council employees at all levels, many of whom were now working in areas they are not normally involved with. He felt sure that the crisis had provided invaluable lessons in streamlining services and would enable an improved provision of council services in the future.
