Newhaven MP Maria Caulfield has welcomed a £2000 funding boost for Newhaven Bowling Club to help them through the Coronavirus pandemic.
Maria Caulfield MP has been a Patron of Newhaven Bowling Club for the last two years, having been announced as such at the club’s annual awards ceremony in 2018 while she was presenting the awards.
The Sport England funding given to Newhaven Bowling Club is part of a £210 million package of government and National Lottery funding that has been developed to help the sport and physical activity sector through this crisis.
Although the bowling season normally starts in April, this season is currently on hold in line with Government advice due to the Coronavirus. However Newhaven Bowling Club are asking that members and those interesting in joining for the first time if they can do so now to help the club. Maria Caulfield MP said “I was delighted when I found out that Newhaven Bowling Club are to be given £2000 from Sport England to help them during the Coronavirus, particularly as it has come during what would normally be the start of their season. If there are any other sports clubs or associations within the Lewes constituency who are needing help I would encourage them to look at the Sport England website for details of the funding available and sector specific advice.
