A homeless man died after being found on a bench in Eastbourne centre

An inquest at Eastbourne Town Hall has been held into the death of a homeless man who was found unresponsive on a bench outside T. J. Hughes in April this year.

Despite the efforts of Police and Paramedics and the intensive care unit at the Eastbourne General Hospital, the man named as Liverpool born Kevin Michael Sumner (34) died after remaining in a coma until his life support machine was switched off on April 28th.

Mr. Sumner had a history of heroine, cocaine, alcohol and cannabis addiction and just before his death was involved in altercations with other people living on the streets, but not linked to his death.

The ruling of the inquest was that Mr. Sumner died of multiple organ failure and heroin and alcohol toxicity.
