May elections in Lewes district and Eastbourne

We have been sent this notification from the local Councils regarding elections upcoming in May. It contains much relevant information so please read:-

“We are writing to provide you with information about the counts for the local elections in May.

Voting for the Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) and East Sussex County Council (ESCC) will be held on May 6.

Alongside these, in Eastbourne there will also be a Hampden Park ward by-election.

The Eastbourne count for the by-election and Eastbourne votes in the ESCC election will take place at Winter Garden, Compton Street, on Friday, May 7.

In Lewes district, as well as the PCC and ESCC elections there will be also be the following elections/referendums:

  • Chailey Neighbourhood planning referendum
  • Telscombe Town Council
  • Newhaven Town Council (Denton and South Wards only)
  • Seaford Town Council (East Ward and possibly Sutton Wards)
  • Seaford East District Council
  • Seaford West District Council

The Lewes district count for these and the Lewes district votes in the ESCC elections will take place at the Town Hall, High Street, Lewes, on Friday, May 7.

The Sussex PCC count will be held on Monday, May 10. Local counts will be held in Eastbourne and Lewes feeding into the count at the Hilton Metropole in Brighton, where the overall result will be announced. Brighton and Hove City Council is leading on this.

While we look ahead to the easing of Covid-19 restrictions in the summer (hopefully), there will be strict limits on attendance at the Lewes and Eastbourne counts.

Political candidates are being restricted to bringing one election agent and one counting agent, and we are being asked to ensure media attendance is kept to a minimum, and only if absolutely necessary.

With this in mind, we will ensure that all results are published online as they are declared and are looking into live streaming the counts, as well as providing photographs to media so that the elections can be fully covered remotely.

However, if you or someone in your organisation feels they must attend in order to carry out their work then please let us know now so that we can look into whether we can fulfil such a request while adhering to Covid-safety guidelines.

It is important to let us know this now as this will have to be organised well in advance.

Any questions, please drop us an email or call us on 07563 048321 (Angela) or 07779 252860 (Chris).

Kind regards,
