Civic Office Awarded Commendation Certificate

Civic officer Deborah Donovan has worked for Peacehaven Town Council for 18 years. She has supported the Mayor for
the past 9 years, managing his diary, arranging events and co-ordinating his charity work. Debbie is a member of the
National Civic Officers Association and sits on their executive board.
During 2020 since the first lockdown Debbie was assigned to work from home and found that she was able to carry out her duties with ease, although she felt that the mayor needed to maintain a high profile.
Together with her colleague Matt Gunn they encouraged the Mayor Cllr. Claude Cheta to create activities which would
include residents, along with maintaining support for his charity, the SCDA food bank. This was achieved by adhering to the government’s guidelines, by organising a 5k run throughout August, establishing other safe fundraising events and various visits to our local businesses and organisations.
Throughout the three lockdowns, the Mayor’s profile was highlighted and residents in Peacehaven were kept updated with information through videos and news reports via social media and the council’s website.
Deborah submitted a summary of what the Civic Office achieved in 2020 to the National Civic Officers Association, this
was recognised throughout the UK and at a recent conference Deborah was awarded a Commendation Certificate for her work supporting the Town’s First Citizen.
PTC would like to thank Debbie & her team for achieving such a prestigious award and for putting our town on the map.
Deborah is delighted that Peacehaven has been recognised over so many other Civic offices in the Country. She said,
This is down to a great support team and a fantastic Mayor who holds his position with great passion and care with the
need to connect with all Peacehaven residents. This award could not have been achieved without such an enthusiastic
and compassionate Mayor, thank you Claude’
