Bogus Callers In Seaford
Following reports of suspicious males perpetrating to be from British
Gas in Seaford, Lewes Police are reminding residents to be cautious of
‘cold callers’.
3 males were reported knocking on residents doors around Seaford Central
Ward, during the early morning claiming to be from British Gas needing
to check the hot water.
The males described as around 5’8”, white, mid 30’s, one wearing navy
jumper and orange high-vis trousers called on residents around 9 am.
None of the males had official British Gas identification on them, nor
did they carry any tools, nor was there a British Gas van in close
proximity – cautious residents refused the males entry, and after a
short time the males left.
Although many legitimate businesses sell products door-to-door; gas,
electricity and water companies need to visit to read your meters;
fraudsters may also knock on your door to part you from your money, or
get into your home to steal from you.
- If someone knocks at your front door claiming to be from a company, first check their ID. If you’re not happy, don’t let them in.
- Never call the phone number on their ID card to check them out. Ask the salesperson to wait outside, shut the door and find the company number on the internet. If they’re genuine, they’ll understand.
