Maria Caulfield MP and Sports Minister Nigel Huddleston MP have visited Lewes Football Club.
On the visit to The Dripping Pan stadium in Lewes local MP Maria Caulfield and the Sport Minister held discussions with Lewes Football club regarding the needs of lower league & non-league men’s football clubs and women’s football clubs who are all facing difficulties due to the last few months of Covid19 restrictions.
Maria Caulfield MP said “Sport, particularly football, is a cornerstone of life in our country. It brings families and communities together, inspires people, and improves health and wellbeing. We need to ensure that while the upper leagues of men’s football has returned that non-league men’s football and women’s football are still supported through the covid19 pandemic. It would be a tragedy if fantastic clubs like Lewes FC were to be lost during this crisis.”
“I wanted to bring my colleague the Sports Minister, Nigel Huddleston MP, to Lewes Football Club to see how they treat and pay their men’s and women’s teams equally. We were able to hear first hand from them what the government’s plans mean to them and what further support would be beneficial. Alongside my visit to Seaford FC last week, this is all vital information that we can take back to the Secretary of State for Culture, Media & Sport.”
