New Year’s Eve is not a time for gatherings, East Sussex residents are being reminded.
With Covid infections continuing to rise across the county, people have been asked to ensure they see in the New Year only with other members of their household.
There are no relaxation of the Tier 4 rules on 31 December or 1 January and gathering with other people to see in the New Year would risk spreading the virus even faster.
Darrell Gale, Director of Public Health for East Sussex, said: “I know we’re all keen to see the back of 2020 but no one wants to start 2021 in hospital.
“Please make sure you don’t gather with anyone you don’t live with – you’d be risking their health as well as your own. Even if you feel fine, we should remember that one in three people who carry their virus have no symptoms so they may not even be aware they’re infected.
“If you’d like to see in the New Year, please make it a night in with just the people you live with.”
